Mississippi College Women Jump to No. 8 in ITA National Rankings; Men Ranked 37th
The Mississippi College women’s tennis team has moved up to No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II national rankings, marking a strong start to the 2026 spring season, according to ITA rankings released Tuesday.
The Choctaws are undefeated at 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play. They have recorded notable wins, including a 6-1 victory over then-No. 2 West Florida and a 4-3 win over Lubbock Christian.
Several players are featured in the ITA individual rankings. Emily Buchanan leads the group, ranked No. 13 nationally in singles. Rocio Martinez is ranked No. 63, and Rune Van Wyk is No. 70. In doubles, the team of Buchanan and Ann Cabott Stockett is No. 32, while Buchanan paired with Van Wyk is No. 38. Katharina Weber and Martinez are ranked No. 45 in doubles.
On the men’s side, Mississippi College is ranked No. 37 in the ITA team standings, despite recent results not yet being reflected in the poll. The team holds a 5-2 record and has won its last two matches, including road victories over Arkansas-Fort Smith and Ouachita Baptist.
Individually, Mikayel Avanesyan is ranked No. 51 nationally in singles, and Matias Ruiz is No. 60. The doubles team of Ruiz and Mattia Ricci is among Division II’s top tandems, earning a No. 13 ranking.
The teams will return to action this weekend at the MC Tennis Complex, hosting No. 13 UT Tyler on Friday and Lynn University on Saturday. The women’s match against UT Tyler is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the men’s match at 1 p.m.
