Mississippi College Wins DMR Title, Advances Multiple Athletes at GSC Indoor Championships

Birmingham, Ala. — Mississippi College had a strong start to the 2026 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Lady Choctaws won the women’s distance medley relay and advanced multiple athletes to the finals on day one.

In the women’s event, Mississippi College posted a winning time of 11:39.65, earning 10 team points and securing the conference title. The men’s team finished third in the DMR with a time of 9:59.09.

Several athletes advanced to Friday’s finals. Freshman Brodie Roberts led the men’s 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 6.86 seconds, the fastest of the day. Tristan Jusino-Lansing qualified first in the hurdles at 8.02 seconds, while teammate Jake McMillan also moved on after winning his heat in 8.20 seconds.

In the women’s hurdles, Haylei Mason qualified for the finals with a time of 9.04 seconds, and Madison Flugence advanced with an 8.80-second heat win. Flugence also finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.39 meters (17 feet, 8.25 inches).

Other qualifiers include senior Alana Green, who advanced in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 25.26 seconds, and Elyse Dorris, who narrowly missed the top eight in the 60-meter dash preliminaries.

In distance events, Kinley Harris finished 11th in the women’s 5,000 meters in 18:31.66, with Gabrielle Jeffery placing 13th. On the men’s side, Braedon Methvin was ninth in 15:15.34, followed by Cooper Parmer in 10th.

In field events, Isabella Magyar tied for fifth in the women’s pole vault at 3.05 meters (10 feet), and Kennedy Thompson was sixth in the shot put at 11.96 meters (39 feet, 3 inches). Multi-event competitor Ann Cobb finished ninth in the pentathlon’s 800-meter segment, contributing to her overall performance.

Day two of the championships begins Friday at 10 a.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Final team standings will be determined after competition concludes.
