Mississippi College Track & Field Earns Multiple GSC Weekly Honors

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College’s indoor track and field teams earned several Gulf South Conference weekly honors, the league announced Wednesday. Three Choctaws and Lady Choctaws received recognition for their performances at the Vanderbilt Indoor Music City Challenge.

Lauren Wallace was named GSC Track Athlete of the Week after posting an NCAA provisional time of 4:43.84 in the mile, finishing sixth in a field dominated by Division I competitors. She also helped the Lady Choctaws place fourth in the Distance Medley Relay with an NCAA provisional mark of 11:43.97.

Haylei Mason, a freshman, was named GSC Freshman of the Week. Mason ran the second leg of the relay and posted a 58.9 split, contributing to the team’s second-fastest time in program history.

On the men’s side, Matias Vasquez earned GSC Track Athlete of the Week honors after a personal-best 49.06 in the 400 meters, placing 10th in a largely Division I field. His time ranks fifth in the conference this season.

The honors mark a successful indoor season for Mississippi College, which has earned multiple weekly awards in 2026. The teams now prepare for the upcoming Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships to conclude the indoor season.
