Mississippi College Tennis Teams Sweep Valdosta State in Gulf South Conference Matchup

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Mississippi College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams swept Valdosta State in a Gulf South Conference matchup at the University of West Florida Tennis Complex on Friday.

The Lady Choctaws, ranked No. 7 nationally, defeated the No. 16 Blazers 7-0 to improve to 19-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play. They claimed the doubles point early and won all six singles matches convincingly. No. 2 Emily Buchanan led the singles effort with a straight-sets victory, while No. 60 Rocio Martinez and No. 64 Katharina Weber also secured ranked wins.

In doubles, the duo of Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett earned a key win that helped establish early control. On the men’s side, Mississippi College, ranked No. 18 nationally, defeated Valdosta State 6-1 to move to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in GSC play. The Choctaws took the doubles point with strong performances from Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz, as well as Joshua Hinton and Charles Lefort.

Singles play saw five of six courts won by MC, highlighted by victories from No. 27 Matias Ruiz and No. 54 Mattia Ricci. Mikayel Avanesyan, Sergio Ramirez Ocana, and Lucas de Carvalho also contributed to the win, demonstrating the team’s depth and national presence.

Both programs continue to build momentum in conference play and on the national stage. Mississippi College is scheduled to host West Alabama on Wednesday, April 8, at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton, with first serve at 2 p.m.
