Mississippi College Tennis Teams Dominate Arkansas Road Swing

Fort Smith, Arkansas — Mississippi College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams posted a strong showing during their weekend swing through Arkansas, combining for five victories over two days, according to the university.

The Lady Choctaws improved to 8-0 this season after sweeping the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith 7-0 on Sunday. The team claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and then swept singles matches in straight sets. Emily Buchanan, Katharina Weber, and Rocio Martinez Azcarraga each secured singles wins, with Buchanan and Stockett winning at No. 1 doubles.

That same day, the men’s team also swept UAFS 7-0. Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz won at No. 1 doubles, and Mikhail Avanesyan and Charles Lefort followed with a victory at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Ricci, Ruiz, Avanesyan, Florian Walcher, Sergio Ramirez Ocana, and Lucas Cavalcanti de Carvalho all earned wins, completing the sweep.

On Monday, the women continued their unbeaten streak with a 4-0 victory over Henderson State, winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Singles winners included Buchanan, Martinez Azcarraga, and Van Wyk, all in straight sets. Later that afternoon, the women added another 4-0 win against Ouachita Baptist, with doubles victories from Buchanan/Stockett and Van Wyk/Webber. Singles wins came from Stockett, Hudson, Munoz, and Taylor, keeping their perfect record intact.

The men’s team capped their road trip with a 6-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist. After losing the doubles point, Mississippi College responded by winning five of six singles matches. Ruiz, Avanesyan, Walcher, Ramirez Ocana, and Cavalcanti de Carvalho each secured singles wins, sealing the team victory.

The Choctaws are scheduled to return home this weekend for matches against UT Tyler and Lynn University at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton.
