Mississippi College Sweeps Lee in GSC Softball Series

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College completed a three-game Gulf South Conference softball sweep of Lee over the weekend at the MC Softball Complex. The Choctaws won Friday’s opener 2-1, rallied for a 10-6 victory in game two, and finished the series with a 5-2 win Saturday.

Mississippi College improved to 15-10-1 overall and 8-4 in conference play, extending its winning streak to three games. In the series opener, Reagan Rios allowed one run on six hits with five strikeouts in a complete game effort, helping the Choctaws edge Lee 2-1. Lee scored first in the fourth inning, but Hadley Lemons’ two-RBI single in the sixth put MC ahead.

Later Friday, the Choctaws overcame an early deficit to win 10-6. Trailing 3-0 in the third, MC scored five runs in the inning. Megan Matheis drove in a run with a single, and Madelyn England’s two-RBI double tied the game. Blakely Gill’s three-run home run in the fifth helped seal the victory, with Camryn Bailey pitching five innings for the win and A.K. Willingham closing out.

On Saturday, Mississippi College took the series with a 5-2 win. Lee scored twice in the first, but MC responded with four runs in the second. Ashlyn Rodgers started the rally with an RBI double, and Gill, Shelby Samples, and Matheis contributed RBI hits to give the Choctaws the lead. Rios completed the game, limiting Lee to two hits and three strikeouts.

The team combined for 36 hits in the series, led by Matheis, England, Gill, and Samples. The Choctaws will next host Arkansas-Monticello in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
