Mississippi College Splits GSC Series with Lee University
Mississippi College split a doubleheader with Lee University on Saturday, March 14, in Clinton. The Choctaws took the opener 11-5 before dropping the nightcap 11-7, according to school officials.
In the first game, MC (16-11, 10-5 Gulf South Conference) recorded at least 11 hits for the third straight game and scored 11 runs. They have now won 10 consecutive home series, including eight straight in conference play. Their last home series loss was on April 19, 2024, against West Georgia, a former conference member.
Three players recorded multiple hits in the first game, led by JT Thigpen, who hit a home run and a double, drove in a run, and scored twice. Alex Johnson matched Thigpen with two hits, extending his hitting streak to three games, as did Will Langston. Cade Gadman, Nick Slonaker, and Creek Robertson each drove in two runs. Starting pitcher Coby Gollott earned his fourth win of the season, tossing six innings with seven strikeouts and five runs allowed on 10 hits. Blake Gollott finished the game with three scoreless innings, striking out four.
MC broke open the game with a four-run first inning, aided by an early error. RBI hits from Langston and Slonaker put the Choctaws ahead 4-0. Lee responded with runs in the third and fourth innings, but MC answered with a four-run fifth, highlighted by two-run singles from Robertson and Gadman. Thigpen’s solo home run in the seventh sealed the victory.
The second game marked MC’s first home loss since Feb. 24, 2026, ending a seven-game home winning streak. Gadman had three hits and two RBIs, continuing his recent offensive production. Langston homered and scored twice, extending his streak of games with at least two runs to four. Slonaker added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, marking his second straight game with at least two RBIs.
The Choctaws built a 3-0 lead through three innings, with RBI singles from Johnson and Sanderson and a bases-loaded walk from Slonaker. Langston’s solo home run in the fourth extended the lead to 4-0. However, Lee rallied in the fifth, scoring eight unearned runs due to MC’s errors, including a three-run homer from Cody Turner that gave the Flames the lead.
Lee added insurance in the seventh with a three-run homer from Nate Caraballo. MC attempted a comeback with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by Gadman’s two-RBI single. Despite the effort, Lee held on to win. Pitcher Cooper Cooksey took the loss after allowing seven unearned runs in 4.2 innings, striking out eight. Dylan Cope and Will Daniel pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief.
Mississippi College returns to action March 20, traveling to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene. The series opener is scheduled for 5 p.m., officials said.
