Mississippi College Softball Splits Opening Day at The Scrapyard
Conroe, Texas — Mississippi College Softball opened the 2026 season Friday at The Scrapyard with a split doubleheader. The Choctaws lost 4-1 to St. Mary’s (Texas) before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Texas A&M International.
In the first game, Mississippi College grabbed an early lead when Madelyn England hit a solo home run in the second inning. The Rattlers responded in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to tie the game and took the lead in the sixth with a triple and an RBI single. They added two more runs in the seventh to secure the win. Reagan Rios pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Grace Wallis pitched two innings of relief without giving up an earned run. England’s home run was the only run for the Choctaws in the game.
In the second game, Camryn Bailey delivered an outstanding performance in the circle, striking out 11 batters over a complete game. TAMIU scored first, but Bailey kept them at bay. Mississippi College tied the game in the sixth when England doubled and scored on a sacrifice by Bailey. The Choctaws took the lead in the seventh, with Ellie Fryar doubling home Kallee Nichols and later scoring on a sacrifice from Samples. Bailey closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh to earn her first win of the season.
At the plate, Fryar went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Nichols added two hits and scored a run. England contributed two hits, including a double and triple. Mississippi College concluded opening day with a 1-1 record and continues play at The Scrapyard this weekend.
