Mississippi College softball splits doubleheader at Trevecca Nazarene, sets up series finale
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mississippi College and Trevecca Nazarene split a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader Friday. The Trojans won the opener 8-3, but the Choctaws responded with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap, setting up a decisive third game on Saturday afternoon.
Trevecca took control early in the first game, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Annabelle Ellis. The Trojans added three more runs in the fifth to extend their lead. Mississippi College managed only two hits in the opener but scored twice in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single from Madelyn England. Sarah Lee contributed an RBI single in the sixth, but the Choctaws could not overcome the early deficit.
Reagan Rios took the loss for Mississippi College, allowing seven runs—four earned—over four innings. Bailey Goad earned the win for Trevecca. In the second game, the Choctaws’ offense came alive with 12 hits and a strong performance from pitcher Camryn Bailey, who pitched a complete game.
Mississippi College scored first in the second game, with Mary Lem driving in a run and Morgan Lavergne adding a sacrifice fly to give the team a 2-0 lead. Trevecca responded with three runs across the fourth and fifth innings, including a solo home run from Annalise Mecklenburg. The Choctaws tied the game in the sixth on a home run from Sarah Lee and took the lead in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Lee and an RBI single from England.
Bailey improved to 10-4 on the season, allowing three runs—two earned—on seven hits while striking out nine. England led Mississippi College at the plate with two hits and an RBI, and Shelby Samples added two hits and a run scored. The series will conclude Saturday at 1 p.m. in Nashville.
