Mississippi College Softball Falls to Trevecca Nazarene in Series Finale
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mississippi College’s softball team fell 8-6 to Trevecca Nazarene in the series finale Saturday. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead and maintained it through most of the game.
Trevecca Nazarene scored twice in the first inning and added three more in the second, highlighted by a three-run homer from Annalise Mecklenburg. The Trojans extended their lead to 7-1 after four innings and scored another run in the fifth.
The Choctaws responded with a late rally, collecting 11 hits in the game. Shelby Samples went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Blakely Gill and Madelyn England each had two hits and scored twice. Samples also doubled and drove in two runs in the fifth inning, helping cut the deficit.
Mississippi College scored two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, including Samples’ solo homer in the seventh. However, Trevecca Nazarene’s pitching staff held firm to secure the win and the series.
Camryn Bailey took the loss for the Choctaws, allowing six runs in three innings. Reagan Rios pitched 2.2 innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just one run. Goad earned the win for Trevecca Nazarene, with Brooks earning the save.
The teams will meet again Tuesday in a non-conference game at Spring Hill College.
