Mississippi College Softball Edges Christian Brothers 4-3 in Tennessee
Mississippi College beat Christian Brothers 4-3 in Memphis on Saturday, improving to 24-14-1 overall and 14-7 in the Gulf South Conference, according to school officials.
The Choctaws’s offense featured nine hits, including a home run from Blakely Gill. Gill also doubled and drove in three runs. Shelby Samples contributed two hits and scored once, while Morgan Lavergne scored twice and reached base multiple times.
Christian Brothers took an early lead in the third inning when Mackenzie Gieseler doubled and drove in Mandie Barrow. Gill responded in the fourth with a two-run homer, giving MC a 2-1 lead. The Blue and Gold answered with two runs of their own in the same inning, including an RBI double from Dakota Davis to go ahead 3-2.
In the fifth, Gill singled to drive in Lavergne to tie the game at 3-3. The decisive moment came in the seventh when Megan Matheis hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Shelby Samples to put Mississippi College ahead 4-3. The Choctaws held Christian Brothers scoreless in the final inning to seal the victory.
Pitching duties were shared by Reagan Rios, Grace Wallis, and Camryn Bailey. Rios pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. Bailey closed the game with 2 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing only one hit to earn the win, according to team reports.
Mississippi College returns to action next weekend against Alabama-Huntsville for Alumni Weekend. The team aims to continue its winning streak in conference play.
