Mississippi College Softball Drops Game Three to Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College’s softball team fell to Valdosta State 3-1 Sunday at the MC Softball Complex. The Choctaws, now 21-14-1 overall and 11-7 in conference play, recorded nine hits but only scored once in the first inning.

Both teams scored in the first inning. Saylor McNearney homered for Valdosta State, while Ellie Fryar doubled and later scored on a single by Blakely Gill. The game remained tied at 1-1 after the first inning.

Valdosta State took the lead in the fifth inning. McNearney and Charlotte Phillips each singled, and Chloe Eichelberger doubled to drive in McNearney. Annelise Buncy was hit by a pitch, allowing Phillips to score. The Blazers led 3-1 after the inning and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Mississippi College was unable to score in the remaining innings. Camryn Bailey started and pitched four and a third innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out three. She threw 84 pitches, with 53 strikes, and posted a WHIP of 1.95. AK Willingham pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing one hit and no runs. She recorded a WHIP of 0.45 with one strikeout and 26 pitches, 15 of which were strikes.

At the plate, Blakely Gill and Morgan Lavergne each had two hits and a stolen base. Fryar added a double and scored once. Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference action Thursday at Christian Brothers, with games scheduled in Memphis, Tennessee.
