Mississippi College Softball Celebrates 1,000th Win with Doubleheader Sweep of Christian Brothers
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mississippi College softball celebrated a historic milestone Thursday, sweeping Christian Brothers University in a doubleheader and earning its 1,000th all-time win. The second game turned into a rout, with the Choctaws winning 14–2 at Nadicksbernd Field.
The victory improved Mississippi College’s record to 23–14–1 overall and 13–7 in Gulf South Conference play. Christian Brothers fell to 7–26–1 overall and 2–18 in conference play.
In the first game, the Choctaws trailed 3–0 through five innings. They rallied in the sixth, scoring six runs. Shelby Samples hit a grand slam to cap the rally, and Blakely Gill added a solo homer to give MC a 6–5 lead. The team added two more runs in the seventh to secure an 8–5 victory. Grace Wallis started and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs. Reagan Rios earned the win, improving to 7–4, with 2 2/3 innings of relief and three strikeouts.
Samples led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Gill added three hits, two runs scored, and a homer. The team’s bats came alive late, fueling the comeback.
The second game was a historic moment for the program. Led by pitcher Camryn Bailey, who pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and two runs allowed, the Choctaws erupted for 13 hits and a seven-run sixth inning. Morgan Lavergne set the tone with three hits, including a double, and scored three runs. Power hitters Sarah Lee and Kate Rills each homered in the sixth, and Ellie Fryar added a triple and scored twice. Every part of the lineup contributed as Mississippi College claimed its 1,000th win, a milestone reflecting decades of sustained excellence.
Looking ahead, Mississippi College will try to complete the series sweep when the teams meet again Friday at 12 p.m. in Memphis.
