Mississippi College Men’s Tennis Sweeps Tuskegee After Weekend Split with AUM and Montevallo

The No. 17 Mississippi College men’s tennis team had a busy weekend in Alabama, earning a Gulf South Conference win over Montevallo before splitting a Sunday doubleheader with Auburn Montgomery and Tuskegee.

Saturday, the Choctaws defeated Montevallo 6-1, controlling the match with five singles victories after securing the doubles point. MC won two of three doubles matches, including wins at No. 1 from Matias Ruiz and Mattia Ricci, and at No. 3 from Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Lucas Cavalvanti de Carvalho. In singles play, Ricci and Florian Walcher claimed straight-set wins, while Ruiz, Ramirez Ocana, and Cavalvanti de Carvalho all battled through three-set matches to clinch the victory.

On Sunday, Mississippi College opened with a 4-3 loss to Auburn Montgomery in Montgomery. The Choctaws took the doubles point with a 6-3 win from Ricci and Ruiz, but AUM responded with wins in singles at Nos. 1, 2, and 6. MC’s Walcher, Mikayel Avanesyan, and Ramirez Ocana earned singles victories, with Avanesyan rallying in a three-set match. Despite the loss, the team regrouped later in the day to sweep Tuskegee 4-0, finishing the weekend on a high note. The victory included securing the doubles point and winning three singles matches.

Overall, Mississippi College demonstrated depth across its lineup, with multiple players contributing in both doubles and singles. The team has now won three of its last four matches as it continues Gulf South Conference play, according to school officials.
