Mississippi College Men’s Tennis Beats Delta State 6-1
The Mississippi College men’s tennis team improved to 9-3 overall with a 6-1 win over Delta State on Tuesday at the MC Tennis Complex, according to school sources.
The Choctaws secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, while Charles Lefort and Mikayel Avanesyan took No. 2, 6-1. Delta State claimed the third doubles match.
In singles play, Mississippi College dominated, winning five of six matches. Ricci earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Ruiz also won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4. Florian Walcher won at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3, and Lucas Cavalvanti de Carvalho secured a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Sergio Ramirez Ocana fought through a three-set match at No. 5, rallying for a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory. Delta State’s only point came at No. 3 singles.
The team will continue its road trip this weekend, facing Montevallo on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. They then travel to Montgomery to face Auburn Montgomery at 10 a.m. Sunday before ending the weekend against Tuskegee at 3 p.m. CT.
