Mississippi College Falls to UAH in High-Scoring Gulf South Battle

Huntsville, Ala. — Mississippi College dropped a 97-87 decision to UAH on Saturday at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall. The game featured a high-scoring effort from both teams, with UAH hitting 16 three-pointers and the Choctaws scoring 42 points in the paint, according to game officials.

Mississippi College took an early lead, with Josh Holman scoring a layup and Avaughn Johnson adding a tip-in for a 4-0 advantage. Judah Land’s dunk pushed the lead to 6-0 at 18:09. UAH responded with a three from Matthew Thurman at 17:54, and Knute Wood’s three at 9:56 put the Chargers ahead, leading to a 26-20 score by the end of the first half. UAH led 52-33 at halftime, with Thomas Allard’s jumper in the final minute extending their advantage.

In the second half, Mississippi College fought back with a series of three-pointers from Phil Nelson, who scored 21 points on perfect shooting from the free-throw line. Despite the Blue and Gold’s offensive surge, UAH maintained its lead through consistent scoring from Allard, including free throws at 11:56 that helped extend the lead. Holman and DeMarcus Powe contributed key baskets in the paint late in the game, but UAH held on for the win.

Holman led Mississippi College with 19 points and eight rebounds. Nelson added 21 points and five rebounds, while Powe scored 17 points and made three three-pointers. Land finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and shot 5-for-6 from the field.

The Choctaws will host West Florida on Thursday, Feb. 12, at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Mississippi, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m., according to team officials.
