Mississippi College Baseball Sweeps Christian Brothers in Series Finale
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mississippi College baseball split a doubleheader against Christian Brothers on Friday, April 3, in Gulf South Conference play. The Choctaws (23-15, 16-8 GSC) won the series with a 13-6 victory in the second game after falling 11-1 in the opener.
In the first game, Christian Brothers took an early lead with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by Isaac Lemanski’s two-run homer. The Buccaneers added three more runs in the seventh to win handily. Mississippi College’s Will Langston led offensively with three hits, including two doubles. Creek Robertson added two doubles. Coby Gollott took the loss, allowing seven earned runs in five innings with seven strikeouts.
The second game saw the Choctaws bounce back, scoring 13 runs on just five hits while drawing a season-high 16 walks. Cade Gadman led the team with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. JT Thigpen also doubled and drove in two runs. Alex Johnson reached base four times and scored four runs, both career highs. Jake LaRocca contributed a double, two RBIs, and three walks.
Mississippi College scored five runs in the second inning, with Gadman and Thigpen each hitting two-run doubles. They added another run in the third and extended their lead in the sixth with four more runs, driven in by walks, a hit batter, and a fielding error. The Choctaws finished strong with three additional runs in the seventh.
Despite Christian Brothers recording 13 hits and leaving 12 runners on base, Mississippi College’s pitching limited damage. Kamryn Carlisle pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run without a walk. Cooper Cooksey earned his second win of the season, allowing one earned run over two innings with four hits and two strikeouts. The victory marked the Choctaws’ eighth win in their last 10 games in Memphis.
Mississippi College will return home to face West Alabama at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.
