Mississippi College Baseball Beats Lee 11-7 in Opening of Series

Mississippi College took the first game of its weekend series against Lee with an 11-7 victory Friday in Clinton, Mississippi, officials said. The Choctaws, now 15-10 overall and 9-4 in Gulf South Conference play, used a late offensive surge to secure the win.

The team tied its season high with 15 hits and registered nine extra-base hits, including four doubles and four home runs. JT Thigpen led the offensive effort with four hits, four runs scored, including a double and a triple. Will Langston added three hits, drove in four runs, and hit two home runs. Alex Johnson contributed with a home run and three hits, tallying four RBIs.

Starting pitcher Kamryn Carlise earned the win in relief, pitching two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Taylor Ballard closed the game, recording his first save of the season by striking out three in 1.2 innings without allowing a run.

The Choctaws scored first in the opening inning when Johnson singled to score Thigpen. Lee responded with a two-run homer from Casen Youngblood in the second. The Flames briefly took the lead in the third but Mississippi College regained control in the fifth, with Thigpen tripling home a run, followed by Langston’s two-run homer. Johnson’s three-run blast in the eighth sealed the victory.

The Flames’ Mason Bratcher took the loss after 2.2 innings in relief. The teams are scheduled to continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon, officials said.
