Mississippi College baseball beats Auburn Montgomery 6-4 for fifth straight win

Montgomery, Ala. — Mississippi College baseball extended its winning streak to five games with a 6-4 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday at QV Lowe Field. The Choctaws, who earned their first road win of the season, moved to 12-9 overall and 7-3 in Gulf South Conference play.

AUM dropped to 5-14 and 1-9 in the league. The win marked MC’s fourth consecutive victory in the series and their 10th all-time. It was also their first win in Montgomery since Feb. 23, 2024, when they defeated AUM 13-2 by run rule.

Will Langston led the Choctaws with a season-high three RBIs and two hits, including a double. The Vestavia Hills, Alabama, native recorded his fifth multi-hit game of the season and his second multi-RBI effort. JT Thigpen added two RBIs, marking his fifth straight game with at least two RBIs, and scored a run with a double. Tyrus Williams and Ty Murphy also contributed multi-hit performances, with Williams recording his fourth and Murphy his seventh of the season.

Caleb Peterson (3-2) pitched 7.2 innings, striking out nine batters while allowing two earned runs and four hits. Dylan Cope relieved him, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on one hit. MC jumped ahead early and maintained the lead, despite a late rally by AUM. The Choctaws scored in the first inning on a single and stolen base by Cade Gadman, who later scored on Langston’s RBI double.

In the third, Creek Robertson walked, stole second, moved to third on a balk, and scored on a sacrifice fly. MC extended its lead in the sixth when Thigpen doubled and later scored on Tyler Sanderson’s single. The seventh inning saw MC break the game open with three runs, highlighted by Langston’s two-RBI single.

AUM responded with two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth but could not catch up. Kurt Kizer led the Warhawks with two hits. Huston Wynne (1-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings. The teams are scheduled to finish the weekend series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
