Millsaps Women’s Tennis Dominates University of the Ozarks 7-0
The Millsaps College women’s tennis team defeated the University of the Ozarks 7-0 Friday on their home courts in Jackson, Mississippi. The Majors dominated both doubles and singles play to secure the win, according to school officials.
The doubles team of sophomore Riley McClain and senior Alexis Oliver started the session with a 6-1 victory on Court One. Classmates Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks won 6-0 on Court Two, while freshman Bella-Bennett Graham and sophomore Virginia Trible completed the sweep with another 6-0 victory on Court Three.
In singles action, Oliver won 6-0, 6-1 on Court One. McClain defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Smith added to the tally with a 6-4, 6-3 win, and Spinks blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Graham secured a 6-1, 6-2 result at No. 5 singles, while Trible finished with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The men’s team faced a different outcome, losing 7-0 to NJCAA-ranked No. 13 Jones College. Senior Sam Tuli and freshman Jon Nguyen each won singles matches for Millsaps, but the team ultimately fell in both singles and doubles play.
The team’s doubles pairing of Tuli and Payne won 7-5 in a close contest, but Millsaps was unable to secure victories in the other doubles matches. In singles, Tuli and Nguyen earned wins, but Jones College dominated the rest of the singles matches, securing the team win.
