Millsaps Track and Field Posts Personal Bests at Southern Miss Invitational

The Millsaps College men’s and women’s track and field teams finished their weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational with a series of personal bests and record-breaking performances at the Marshall Bell Track Complex in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, according to school officials.

On the men’s side, freshman Benjamin Sylve finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.23, ranking as the fourth-fastest in program history, the school said. Fellow freshman Dallas Stricker placed ninth in the 1500 meters in 4:15.77. Sophomore Aidan Brice achieved personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters, finishing in 11.31 seconds and 23.34 seconds, respectively.

Sean Wyers contributed for the men’s team with a discus throw of 42.44 meters, the second-farthest in program history. He also competed in the hammer throw and shot put, finishing 18th in both events. Freshman Michael Cosgriff and sophomore Dillon Duley posted personal bests in the discus, with throws of 37.35 and 34.66 meters, respectively. Other notable performances included Frederick Fluker Jr. in the 110-meter hurdles and Carter Davis in the javelin, with the latter setting a personal best of 25.71 meters.

The men’s relay team, consisting of Brice, Wheeler, Fluker Jr., and Carver, finished 10th in the 4×100-meter relay with a season-best time of 44.65 seconds. The team also finished in the top 25 in the long jump with a mark of 5.70 meters.

Meanwhile, the women’s team excelled with sophomore Claudia Dempsey finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 14:04.68. Senior Eleanor Scott placed fourth in the triple jump with an 11.01-meter leap. Junior Fiona Selders tied her personal best in the 100 meters, finishing 16th in 12.40 seconds, which also ranks second in program history. She also finished 15th in the 200 meters in 25.81 seconds.

Other standout performances included junior Amari Jackson-Wright in the discus and shot put, as well as freshman Reese Brasseaux and Day, who each set personal bests in the discus. The women’s team wrapped up the meet with positive momentum and will compete next at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet on April 11 in Memphis, Tennessee, the school said.
