Millsaps Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season with Program Records at MC Spring Classic
The Millsaps College men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their outdoor season with a strong showing at the Mississippi College Spring Classic on Saturday, setting five program records at James E. Parkman Track in Clinton, Mississippi, according to school officials.
Freshman Sean Wyers led the men’s team, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 33.64 meters in his debut. Wyers also finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 40.64 meters, the second-best mark in school history, and ninth in the shot put with 12.70 meters, the third-best in program history. Wyers’ performances helped the team make a strong start to the season.
Other notable men’s performances included sophomore Dallas Stricker finishing fifth in the 1,500 meters in 4:13.67, and freshman Frederick Fluker Jr. placing 11th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.23 seconds, ranking third in program history. The men’s 4×100 relay team also finished seventh with a time of 44.87 seconds, featuring Brice, Wheeler, Fluker Jr., and Price.
On the women’s side, junior Fiona Selders was named SAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after finishing eighth in the 200 meters (25.29 seconds) and tenth in the 100 meters (12.33 seconds). Her 100-meter time ranks as the second-fastest in school history, and her 200-meter time is third.
Junior Eleanor Scott had an impressive start, finishing third in the triple jump (11.11 meters) and fifth in the high jump (1.45 meters). The women’s hammer throw saw strong performances from Amelia Bohl (5th, 36.91 meters), Reese Brasseaux (8th, 30.46 meters), Viv Jordan (10th, 27.63 meters), and Amari Jackson-Wright (13th, 25.03 meters). Jackson-Wright also competed in the shot put, finishing eighth with 10.32 meters, and Laken Day placed ninth in the javelin with a throw of 25.18 meters.
The team will next compete at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 20-21, officials said. The event marked a promising start for the Majors’ outdoor season, with athletes setting multiple personal and program records.
