Millsaps Track and Field Opens 2026 Season with Record-Breaking Performances at Samford Open
The Millsaps College men’s and women’s track and field programs kicked off their 2026 indoor seasons Saturday with standout performances at the Samford Open in Birmingham. The Majors set five new school records and achieved top-five marks in program history at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Senior Eleanor Scott broke the school record in the triple jump with a distance of 10.37 meters (34 feet, 0.25 inches), finishing 15th in the event. Freshman Dallas Stricker topped the indoor mile record with a time of 4 minutes, 30.69 seconds, finishing 25th out of 50 competitors and surpassing the previous record set in 2014 by nearly seven seconds.
On the women’s side, freshman Katie Brown tied for fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches). Senior Amari Jackson-Wright set the school mark in the shot put with a throw of 9.45 meters (31 feet, 0 inches), placing 29th. Fellow thrower Vivian Jordan finished 39th in the same event with a mark of 7.92 meters (26 feet).
Junior Suzanna Busbee competed in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, finishing 57th in both events with times of 8.96 seconds and 29.94 seconds, respectively. In the men’s competition, Nick Price and Wyatt Wheeler posted strong performances in the 60-meter dash, placing 50th and 65th with times of 7.34 and 7.51 seconds. Price now ranks second in school history, while Wheeler is sixth.
Stricker also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing 50th with a time of 24.03 seconds. Other notable performances include Sean Wyers, who threw 12.61 meters (41 feet, 4.5 inches) in the shot put, ranking second in school history. In the weight throw, Carter Davis finished 39th with a mark of 7.12 meters (23 feet, 4.75 inches).
