Millsaps Track and Field Opens 2026 Indoor Season with Record Breaks at Samford Open

The Millsaps College men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their 2026 indoor season Saturday at the Samford Open at Birmingham CrossPlex. The Majors posted five top-five performances in school history, including record-breaking efforts from senior Eleanor Scott and freshman Dallas Stricker.

Scott, a senior field specialist, set a new school record in the triple jump with a distance of 10.37 meters (34 feet, 0.25 inches), finishing 15th. On the men’s side, Stricker broke the school record in the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 30.69 seconds, finishing 25th out of 50 runners. His performance shattered the previous record set in 2014 by nearly seven seconds.

In the women’s high jump, freshman Katie Brown tied the school record with a leap of 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches), placing fourth. Senior Amari Jackson-Wright also made her mark in the shot put, recording a toss of 9.45 meters (31 feet, 0 inches), which ranks fourth in school history and placed 29th overall. Fellow thrower Vivian Jordan finished 39th in the same event with a throw of 7.92 meters (26 feet).

Junior Suzanna Busbee competed in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, finishing 57th in both with times of 8.96 seconds and 29.94 seconds, respectively. In the men’s sprints, Nick Price and Wyatt Wheeler posted times of 7.34 and 7.51 seconds in the 60-meter dash, placing 50th and 65th, respectively. Price now ranks second in school history, while Wheeler is sixth.

The men’s team also competed in the 200-meter dash, with Price finishing 50th in 24.03 seconds. Other men’s sprinters included Aidan Brice and Frederick Fluker, who finished 54th and 62nd. In the 400 meters, sophomore Phillip Antis placed 50th with a time of 55.99 seconds. Freshman Sean Wyers recorded the second-best indoor shot put in school history with a throw of 12.61 meters (41 feet, 4.5 inches), finishing 24th.

The meet concluded with junior Carter Davis competing in the weight throw, marking 7.12 meters (23 feet, 4 inches). The Majors will return to Birmingham CrossPlex on Feb. 7 for the UAB Invitational.
