Millsaps Tennis Teams Sweep Belhaven and MUW in Weekend Matches

The Millsaps College men’s and women’s tennis teams swept Belhaven and Mississippi University for Women (MUW) in matches held Saturday and Sunday at Coach Montgomery Courts, according to school officials.

The women’s team opened with a 7-0 victory over Belhaven, winning all singles and doubles matches. Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks led the doubles charge with a 6-4 win, while Riley McClain remained undefeated in singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, as Millsaps did not lose a set in the match, officials said.

In singles, Alexis Oliver and Riley McClain each secured straight-set wins. Oliver defeated Millie Gallarno 6-0, 6-4, while McClain did not drop a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. The team continued its winning streak Sunday with a 7-0 sweep of MUW, dominating in singles with a combined 72 games won to MUW’s 11, according to the school.

Meanwhile, the men’s team started with a 5-2 victory over Belhaven, winning three doubles matches and four singles matches. Jon Nguyen and Anderson Causey each won their singles matches comfortably, with Nguyen winning 6-1, 6-0, and Causey earning a three-set victory. The team wrapped up the weekend with a 4-3 win over MUW, splitting singles matches evenly but taking all three doubles matches, including a 6-1 win by Sebastian Gonzalez and Brennan Pierce, who were named SAA doubles players of the week, officials said.
