Millsaps Softball Sweeps MUW with Late-Inning Rally Weekend
The Millsaps College softball team extended its winning streak over the weekend, sweeping Mississippi University for Women in a three-game series at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
In the first game Saturday, Millsaps won 6-1 behind a strong pitching performance from junior Allana Vasquez, who allowed three hits and one earned run in a complete game. Sophomore Caroline Mathis led the offense with a home run, two RBIs, and a 2-for-4 batting line. Senior Julia Strain and junior Kadence Cannon contributed key hits, helping the Majors take a 3-1 lead after five innings.
The Owls struck first with a solo home run, but Millsaps responded with a three-run homer from Mathis. The Majors added three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory.
The second game saw Millsaps defeat MUW 5-1, leveraging four Owl errors and nine hits. Junior Julie Amacher pitched a complete game, striking out five and allowing only three hits. Offensively, Sears, Vasquez, Cannon, and Mathis each contributed two hits, with Vasquez’s single opening the scoring.
In the series finale Sunday, Millsaps completed the sweep with an 8-4 win, highlighted by a seven-run sixth inning. Junior Sarah Watson pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs, while sophomore Hailey Marange earned the win. The Majors’ offense featured home runs from Cannon and Arena, with Arena’s inside-the-park homer capping the scoring.
Millsaps improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-0 in the series against MUW. The team will next face MUW in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday in Columbus, Mississippi. Live coverage will be available at gomajors.com.
