Millsaps Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Illinois Wesleyan
The Millsaps College softball team split a doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday at the Millsaps College Softball Complex.
In the first game, the Majors fell 6-4 after leading early. Junior Ella Morgan Sears went 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Classmate Allana Vasquez drove in two runs with a key hit, while sophomore Caroline Mathis doubled and scored twice. Brynn Arena also contributed with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Pitcher Hailey Peterson pitched 3.2 innings in relief, striking out three and allowing one earned run. Millsaps took an early 1-0 lead after Sears homered in the first inning. Illinois Wesleyan responded with three runs in the second and extended its lead with two more doubles in the fourth. The game was tied at 4-4 in the fifth before the Titans scored two in the seventh to secure the win.
In the second game, Millsaps earned a 5-3 victory behind a strong seven-inning performance from sophomore pitcher Hailey Marange. Sears scored two runs, singled, and stole a base, while Vasquez drove in two RBIs with a double. The Majors jumped ahead with a three-run first inning and added another in the fifth and sixth innings.
Illinois Wesleyan mounted a rally in the sixth, scoring three runs to narrow the gap to 4-3, but Millsaps responded with a run in the bottom half to make it 5-3. The Majors’ defense held firm in the seventh, with pitcher Peterson recording three ground outs to seal the win.
Millsaps will next face Centre College in a conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Millsaps College Softball Complex. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
