Millsaps Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. — Millsaps College split a doubleheader with Hendrix College on Thursday at the Warriors Softball Field. The Majors won the first game 5-0 but lost the second 4-3 in the final innings.

In the opener, sophomore Hailey Marange pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out two batters. The Madisonville, Louisiana, native improved her record to 5-1 this season. Offensively, Brynn Arena led the way with three runs scored, two hits, and two stolen bases. Allana Vasquez added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Kadence Cannon contributed two hits and an RBI, while Ella Morgan Sears scored the opening run on an RBI single by Vasquez.

The Majors took an early lead, with Arena scoring after a single and stolen base. They extended their lead with a double by Vasquez in the fifth inning, which allowed Arena to score. In the final inning, freshman Liza Gregg delivered a two-RBI single to secure the 5-0 victory.

In the second game, Vasquez pitched three innings, allowing two hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Sears was the standout offensively for Hendrix, driving in three runs and hitting a home run. Caroline Mathis contributed offensively with a run scored and a hit, while Ava Palumbo added a hit and a run scored.

The Warriors took control early, scoring four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a triple and a double. Millsaps attempted a rally in the fifth, with Palumbo drawing a walk, Mathis singling, and Sears hitting a home run to bring the score to 4-3. Despite their effort, the Majors could not complete the comeback, and the game ended with Hendrix holding onto the lead.

The Majors will continue their road trip Saturday with a doubleheader against Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, starting at 11 a.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
