Millsaps Men’s Basketball Clinches Postseason Bid with Win Over Oglethorpe

JACKSON, Miss. — Millsaps College’s men’s basketball team defeated Oglethorpe University 97-71 Saturday inside the Hangar Dome. The Majors honored four seniors before the game, including Dakota Gasca, Mack Gorton, Caleb Kent, and RJ VanBeber.

Millsaps dominated inside, outscoring Oglethorpe 66-24 in the paint, and received significant contributions from its bench, which added 56 points. The Stormy Petrels kept pace early, but the Majors pulled away in the second half, outscoring their opponent 49-32 after halftime.

Junior Jaxon Toney led Millsaps with 20 points, converting 10 of 11 shots, and added 10 rebounds and two blocks for a double-double. He also posted two blocks and a season-high three assists. Senior Caleb Kent scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior Cameron Lumar added 15 points, two assists and a steal.

Gasca finished with 11 points, five assists, and two steals. Junior Colt Donley contributed 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. The team shot 60.9% (42-of-69) from the field. Oglethorpe led early, holding a 26-17 advantage with 11:35 remaining in the first half, but Millsaps responded with a mini 5-0 run and a Luke LeFors three-pointer to take a 35-34 lead. The Majors took a 48-39 lead into halftime and expanded their advantage to as many as 31 points late in the game.

The victory secures Millsaps a spot in the 2026 Southern Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament. The No. 4 seed will play the No. 5 seed at 4 p.m. CT, while the No. 3 seed faces the No. 3 seed at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday. The tournament will be hosted by Berry College, with live video and stats available at gomajors.com. Millsaps will look to continue its postseason run in the upcoming conference tournament.
