Millsaps Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series Against Edgewood

Jackson, Miss. — The Millsaps College baseball team claimed two wins in a three-game series against Edgewood University over the weekend at Twenty Field, according to school officials.

In the series opener Friday, Millsaps edged Edgewood 5-4. Sophomore Wes Carr hit two home runs and drove in four RBIs, while senior Sam Thomas added a solo shot. Freshman Carter Guillory pitched two innings without allowing a hit and struck out five to close the game. Millsaps’s pitching staff combined to hold Edgewood to four hits and four runs, with junior Dylon Lozano and sophomore Cam Cressend each contributing multiple innings of relief.

The game was tied 3-3 after seven innings, but Millsaps scored two runs in the eighth, highlighted by Carr’s two-run homer. Edgewood responded with a solo home run in the top of the ninth but could not complete the comeback. The series continued Saturday with Edgewood winning 16-9 in a high-scoring affair. Freshman Hudson Moberly and sophomore Fred Fields pitched well for Millsaps, but Edgewood’s hitters capitalized on opportunities, including an eight-run ninth inning that sealed the game.

In the final game Sunday, Millsaps rebounded to win 9-5. Freshman Thomas Temple led the offense with four hits, including two triples and a home run. Ousley added three RBIs. Senior Ryan Laiche pitched four innings, earning the win, while Temple threw five innings with six strikeouts. Millsaps built an early 5-0 lead and maintained control despite a late rally by Edgewood, which scored four runs in the fifth inning. Temple’s two-run homer in the eighth helped secure the victory.

The team is scheduled to face Centenary College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Shreveport, Louisiana. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
