Millsaps Baseball Sweeps No. 14 Centre in Weekend Series
The Millsaps College baseball team defeated No. 14 Centre College in a doubleheader Saturday at Twenty Field in Jackson, Mississippi. The Majors won Game 1 6-5 and edged the Colonels 7-6 in 10 innings in Game 2, according to school officials.
In Game 1, sophomore Carston Williams led Millsaps with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Junior Wesley Grant stole two bases and scored twice. Senior EJ Ousley contributed a hit, an RBI, and a run. Freshman Jackson Woolley earned the win in relief, allowing one run over 4.2 innings with five hits and a strikeout.
The game was close throughout. Grant opened with a steal of second and third, setting up Mason Morgan’s RBI single. Williams added a two-run homer to tie the game at 4-4. The Colonels took the lead in the seventh but Millsaps responded with a clutch single from Ousley and a sacrifice fly from Williams to regain the lead. Grant recorded the final out in center field to close the game for Millsaps.
In Game 2, Morgan delivered a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th to secure the victory. The Louisiana native also scored a run and drove in another. Freshmen Hudson Moberly and Jackson Devey pitched five scoreless innings combined, with Devey earning the win with a scoreless 10th inning. Senior Andrew Bradley finished the game in relief.
The Majors took an early lead with a run in the fourth inning, followed by a two-run homer by Veal Jr. in the same inning. Millsaps extended the lead to 4-0 before the Colonels rallied, tying the game at 5-5 in the ninth. Grant’s double in the bottom of the ninth helped send the game into extra innings. Morgan’s heroics ended the game in the 10th, handing Millsaps the series win.
The team will next face Belhaven University on Tuesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The game begins at 6 p.m., with live video and stats available at gomajors.com.
