Mia Bowen posts historic triple-double in MUW women’s basketball loss

COLUMBUS, Miss. — Mia Bowen became the first player in the modern era of Mississippi University for Women women’s basketball to record a triple-double. Despite her historic performance, the Owls lost 67-52 to Westminster College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Pohl Gym.

Bowen finished with 13 points, 20 rebounds and a school-record 10 blocks, which increased her season total to 95. She entered the game as the nation’s No. 2 shot blocker, according to sources. Her effort helped the Owls improve their record to 6-17 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Westminster improved to 9-14 overall and 9-6 in the SLIAAC.

Senior Conley Langford led MUW in scoring with 14 points, including 12 in the second half. She shot 5-for-6 in the final 20 minutes and also recorded four steals. With 1:51 left in the third quarter, Langford’s layup marked her 1,500th career point at MUW, where she holds several program records. Freshman guard Jakayla Smith added 11 points, hitting 5 of 11 shots from the floor.

MUW will conclude its season Saturday at home against Webster College, with senior day festivities honoring Bowen, Langford, and Calysia Phillips scheduled before tip-off at 1 p.m. Despite the defeat, Bowen’s performance was a highlight for the home crowd.
