Malachi Morgan Highlights MUW Track and Field at UAB Invitational

Birmingham, Ala. — Malachi Morgan, a freshman at Mississippi University for Women, broke his own school record in the men’s high jump during the UAB Invitational at the CrossPlex. Morgan cleared 1.99 meters (6 feet 6 1/4 inches), nearly five inches higher than his previous best set three weeks earlier, according to the university.

His jump placed him seventh in a competitive field and tops all competitors from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) by five and a half inches. Morgan’s mark ranks fourth in the NCAA Division III South Region and is the 43rd best nationally in NCAA III, the school said.

While no women’s records were broken at the event, several female athletes posted top-10 regional finishes. Sophomore sprinter Armoni King recorded the eighth-fastest SLIAC times in both the 200 meters (27.89 seconds) and 400 meters (1:05.64). Freshman Cassidy Talley also posted top-10 regional times in those events, ranking ninth in the 400 (1:06.91) and 10th in the 200 (28.12).

In the women’s 800 meters, sophomore Kamiyah Whiting clocked a time of 2:50.36, placing eighth in the SLIAC. In the long jump, sophomores Hali Sinegal and Sacaria Wofford finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with jumps of 4.56 meters and 4.45 meters.

Several athletes continue to improve their regional standings, and the team is gaining momentum ahead of upcoming meets, according to MUW coaches.
