Lynn defeats Delta State 4-0 in men’s tennis
Lynn University handed No. 47 Delta State University a 4-0 loss Friday at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. The Fighting Knights took an early lead by winning the doubles point.
Lynn claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before the third match was completed. Louay Makke and Davide Cortimiglia defeated Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentino Millimaci 6-1 on court one. Aymen Alimoussa and Santino Morel posted a 6-3 win over Valentin Greco and Simon Ojeda at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match between Victor Alves and Lennart Ostheimer and Delta State’s Juan Diego Alzate and Alejandro Bravo was left unfinished with Lynn leading 4-3.
In singles, Lynn secured the victory with three straight-set wins. Makke beat Ojeda 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Alves defeated Cerda Castillo 6-4, 6-3 on court three, and Ostheimer won 6-3, 6-3 over Greco at No. 4 singles. Several matches were still in progress when play was halted, including Alimoussa leading Alzate 7-6, 3-2 at No. 2 singles. Morel led Bravo 6-3, 4-5 at No. 5, and Cortimiglia was ahead of Joaquin Jarochevsky 7-6, 2-1 at No. 6.
With the loss, Delta State moves to 5-4 on the season, while Lynn improves to 6-3. The Statesmen will travel to Pensacola for two matches during spring break, starting with a neutral Gulf South Conference match against Valdosta State on Sunday.
