LSU Alexandria edges William Carey 3-2 in tight game
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey lost a 3-2 game to LSU Alexandria on Tuesday evening at Milton Wheeler Field. LSU Alexandria scored early, capitalizing on two Crusader errors in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, according to the game summary.
Trevor Dooley reached on a throwing error, and Dalton Wilson followed with a single. Lane Kratzer then reached on another error, allowing Dooley to score an unearned run. Both teams then settled into a pitching duel through the middle innings. LSU Alexandria managed to put runners on base but was unable to add to its lead, while Carey was held hitless until the third inning.
The Crusaders tied the game in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk and a double put runners at second and third. Cam Senior grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Hays Carley and making it 1-1.
Carey took the lead in the fifth. Weston Wales and DeeJay Booth opened with singles, then advanced on a wild pitch. Jayden Mark’s sacrifice fly to left field scored Wales, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 advantage.
LSU Alexandria responded in the seventh, tying the game at 2-2 on Kratzer’s two-out double. The Generals then took the lead in the ninth when Brett Batteford hit a two-out RBI single, driving in Dooley for the game-winning run. LSU Alexandria closed out the game by retiring Carey in order in the bottom of the inning.
The Crusaders are scheduled to return to action April 2, hosting UT Southern at 5 p.m. at Milton Wheeler Field, according to team officials.
