Little’s multi-homer game helps Jones split with LSUE in nightcap

EUNICE, La. — Laney Little homered twice and drove in three runs, helping Jones College rally for an 8-7 extra-inning victory over LSU Eunice in the nightcap of a doubleheader Monday. The split leaves both teams with a 19-4 record.

In the first game, LSU Eunice took a 4-2 win behind two home runs by the Bengals off Jones pitcher Madison Sawyer. Sawyer, who suffered her first loss of the season, allowed four hits and two home runs but kept the game close, retiring three straight innings to finish.

Jones jumped ahead early in the second game, with Mary Kimble Price knocking an RBI single in the first inning. Little’s two-run homer in the fourth extended the Bobcats’ lead to 4-0. LSU Eunice responded with three homers of its own, tying the game at 5-5 in the fifth and taking a 6-5 lead in the sixth.

Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, LSU Eunice’s Annaston Tate hit her first career home run, tying the game and sending it into extra innings. Little led off the eighth with a go-ahead homer, and Jones pitcher Morgan Landry retired the Bengals in the bottom half to seal the victory.

Little finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Claire Andersen added a double as the leadoff hitter for Jones. LSU Eunice’s three home runs in the game included solo shots by Tate and others, and they threatened throughout but fell short in the end.

Jones returns home Tuesday to face Lansing, hosting the Lakers at 3 p.m. LSU Eunice next plays at home Thursday against Delgado.
