Little Rock’s BMCU Men’s Tennis team faces tough day on the courts
The BMCU men’s tennis team in Little Rock, Arkansas, faced a challenging day of competition on the courts. They opened the day against Texas A&M–Texarkana and later played a tightly contested match against John Brown University, according to team sources.
In the first match, the Toppers were defeated 7-0 by Texas A&M–Texarkana. Doubles play saw Adriaan Engelbrecht and Kevin Kotzé lose 6-3 at No. 1, while Craig Blevins and Caleb Rogers were defeated 6-0 at No. 2. Pablo Cruz and Luis Lainer dropped their match 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. Singles play was equally tough, with Engelbrecht losing 6-3, 6-3, and Cruz falling 6-1, 6-0. Kotzé was defeated 6-1, 6-2, and Lainer lost 6-0, 6-1. Blevins closed singles with a 6-2, 6-0 result.
Later that day, the Toppers responded with a competitive effort against John Brown University, narrowly losing 4–3. Doubles started slowly, with Engelbrecht and Kotzé falling 6–1 and Blevins and Maj Langerholz also losing 6–1. Cruz and Lainer fought but lost 6–3 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the team showed resilience. Engelbrecht earned a 6–2, 6–3 win, while Cruz dominated 6–0, 7–5. Rogers secured a point with a 7–4 tiebreaker. Kotzé and Blevins played into tiebreakers but fell 10–7, and Lainer narrowly lost the first set 7–5 before dropping the second 6–1. The close match highlighted the team’s growth and fighting spirit throughout the day, according to team officials.
