Late rally falls short as Jackson State narrowly loses at Andre Dawson Classic

Jackson State’s baseball team lost 8-7 to Grambling State on Sunday morning at the Jackie Robinson Training Facility, ending their run in the Andre Dawson Classic. The Tigers trailed 8-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning but scored six runs to close the gap.

Hederick Torres drove in a run with an RBI single, and Troy Wilson Jr. drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit. Robert Tate Jr. then hit a three-run double, bringing Jackson State within one. Tyree Reed added an RBI single with two outs, but the rally fell short after Grambling State reliever Payton Allen secured the final four outs.

Tate finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Diego Melendez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jackson State used five pitchers in the game, with starter Coron Davis taking the loss after working five innings and allowing four runs on four hits, with four strikeouts.

Grambling State jumped ahead early, scoring one run in the first inning and adding three more in the second. The Tigers extended their lead to 8-1 by the top of the seventh. Jackson State mounted its comeback in the bottom of the inning but ultimately fell short.
