Kid Coach RJ Davis Celebrated by Mississippi State and Children’s of Mississippi

RJ Davis of Ridgeland has been named this week’s Kid Coach in a partnership between Children’s of Mississippi and Mississippi State University to honor pediatric patients. The program highlights the courageous stories of young patients facing health challenges.

Despite living with sickle cell disease, which can cause episodes of severe pain and requires frequent hospital visits, RJ maintains a cheerful attitude. He received a bone marrow transplant in November 2024 as a significant step toward better health, according to his family.

The 12-year-old is known for his outgoing personality and ability to make friends easily, especially with other children at the hospital. His family says he always chooses joy. Outside the hospital, RJ enjoys building Legos, collecting Hot Wheels, playing video games, and engaging in sports, both as a spectator and participant.

Children’s of Mississippi and Mississippi State University expressed their support for RJ, wishing him fun at Saturday’s game and cheering him on. The program aims to inspire and uplift pediatric patients through stories of resilience and hope.
