Jones Sweeps Lansing in Doubleheader with Eason Homers

ELLISVILLE — Mabry Eason hit three home runs as Jones swept Lansing in a doubleheader Tuesday. Nine other players also recorded hits in the victories.

The No. 3-ranked Bobcats improved to 21-4 overall, while Lansing dropped to 0-8. Jones will begin Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference play Friday at Northwest, with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.

In the first game, Jones won 10-4. Mary Kimble Price went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Laney Little hit her fifth triple of the season. Jones took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning, with RBI singles from Price and Annaston Tate. Lansing responded with two runs in the third on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Tommi Kleinschmidt. Price added an RBI-double in the third to extend Jones’s lead to 4-2.

With a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Little singled and scored on Claire Andersen’s infield single. Eason then homered twice — a two-run shot to right-center and another to left-center — to push the lead to 10-4, sealing the victory.

Breelyn Cain pitched a complete game, improving to 5-1. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

The second game ended in an 8-0 victory for Jones after five innings. Eason homered twice in this game, once in the first inning and again in the second. Farrah James added a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to help Jones finish the game early. Makynlee Dickerson opened the scoring with a two-run double, and Claire Andersen added an infield single. Lansing’s only hit came in the third inning.

Madison Sawyer earned the win for Jones, improving to 8-1, pitching 3.2 innings. Abigail Lindsey pitched 1.1 innings of hitless relief.
