Jones edges Co-Lin to secure third straight 20-win season

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — In a game filled with 18 ties and lead changes, the Jones College Bobcats edged Co-Lin 78-69 Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The victory improved Jones’s record to 20-7 overall and 9-2 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.

This marks the first time this century the Bobcats have posted three consecutive 20-win seasons. Co-Lin fell to 12-10 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Jones built its largest lead of nine points in the first half, but Co-Lin trimmed that to one, 33-32, at halftime. Dylan Rowe scored seven consecutive points early in the second half as Jones opened with a 7-1 run, pushing the lead to 40-33. Co-Lin responded with an eight-point run to take a 41-40 lead on a jumper by Tristian Lucas.

Keron Jackson put Jones back ahead with a jumper at 12:45 remaining, making it 46-45. Jackson then scored seven straight points, giving the Bobcats the lead for good. Co-Lin was unable to get closer than five points in the final six minutes.

Rowe led all scorers with 23 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Jay Tyler and Jackson added 10 points each. Bob Dickson contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tyler dished out eight assists. Both teams shot 53 percent from the field.

Jones is scheduled to travel to Pearl River on Thursday, Feb. 19, before returning home Monday, Feb. 23, to face Meridian in the regular season finale.
