Jones College Sweeps Mississippi Delta in Doubleheader
MOORHEAD — The No. 6 Jones College softball team swept a doubleheader against Mississippi Delta on Saturday at Lady Trojan Field. The Bobcats won 15-6 and 15-7 in six innings each, moving to 27-6 overall and 6-2 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Jones combined for 30 runs on 32 hits across both games, with 12 players recording at least one hit. The Bobcats took control in the first game after falling behind early. Mississippi Delta led 4-1 after one inning, but Jones rallied to secure the win.
In the opener, Mary Kimble Price hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Morgan Taylor’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 4-4. Madison Sawyer then hit a two-run double in the fourth to put Jones ahead. The Bobcats added six runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game early via run rule. Mabry Eason contributed with a two-run homer and a two-run double, while Farrah James, Annaston Tate and Logan Mansur added RBI singles.
Abigail Lindsey earned the win in relief, scattering two earned runs over four innings with five strikeouts and one walk. She improved to 4-0 this season.
In the second game, Eason hit her 12th home run of the season, and James homered twice, helping Jones build a 4-0 lead after one inning. Mississippi Delta responded with a 4-2 third inning, but Jones extended its lead with a triple from Mansur and a solo homer from Sawyer. James hit her second home run in the fifth, and Jones added a seven-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Gunter hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for Mississippi Delta, but it was not enough. Logan Whitehead pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, striking out six and walking five for the win, improving her record to 2-0.
