Jones College rallies in fourth quarter to beat Co-Lin 67-57

ELLISVILLE — Jones College overcame a late-game deficit to defeat Copiah-Lincoln 67-57 Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

The Bobcats outscored the Lady Wolves 19-9 during the final 4 minutes, 20 seconds to secure the win. Jones fell behind 43-38 early in the fourth quarter but tied the game at 48-48 after a layup by Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central). An 8-0 run followed, capped by a free throw from Lamarah Cleaves (Tupelo), giving Jones a 56-48 lead with 2:20 remaining.

Co-Lin’s Eymani Key made a jumper to cut the deficit to 56-52 with 1:30 left, but a three-point play from Cleaves pushed the Bobcats ahead 61-52 with 1:01 remaining. The Bobcats led 19-11 after the first quarter and 29-20 at halftime. Co-Lin outscored Jones 19-9 in the third quarter to take a 39-38 lead into the final period.

Cleaves led Jones with 25 points and 13 rebounds, adding four steals. Jakera Ducksworth scored 14 points, and Hubbard finished with 10. Maddison Mitchell led Co-Lin with 15 points, while Kamaiyah Pruitt scored 14 and Key had 10.

Jones dominated inside, holding a 38-22 advantage in points in the paint. The Bobcats made 20 of 51 shots (39%) and 27 of 35 free throws (77%). They attempted no three-pointers in 10 attempts. Co-Lin shot 38% from the floor, 30% on three-pointers, and 75% at the free-throw line. Jones also outrebounded Co-Lin 38-33 and forced 20 turnovers compared to 14 turnovers by the Bobcats. Jones scored 28 points off turnovers to Co-Lin’s 19.

The Bobcats will next play at Pearl River at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Their final home game is scheduled against Meridian on Feb. 23.
