Jefferson Achieves Fifth Double-Double of Season in Loss at Alcorn
Lorman, Mississippi — The Mississippi Valley State University women’s basketball team lost to Alcorn State 67-56 on Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Despite a strong all-around effort from Ariel Jefferson, the Devilettes could not overcome the Braves.
Jefferson led Mississippi Valley with 12 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, and grabbed 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Kylah McCullers dished out a personal-best five assists and scored nine points. Jaeda Murphy played nearly the entire game, adding nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals and assists each.
Janiya Jones contributed eight points, hitting two three-pointers, along with five rebounds and two steals. Nairobi Lewis and Desiree Smith combined for 13 rebounds and 12 points, with Lewis recording two blocks. The pair played a combined 32 minutes in the contest, showing efficiency despite limited playing time.
The Devilettes fall to 6-22 overall and 5-12 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Alcorn improves to 17-11 and 14-3 in the conference. The Braves lead the series 62-36, with the last victory for Mississippi Valley coming on March 6, 2025.
