Jackson State women’s tennis extends SWAC unbeaten streak with win over Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Jackson State’s women’s tennis team defeated Alabama A&M 4-0 Saturday morning in an away match, extending their perfect record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play to 6-0.

The Tigers opened the match strong, with Daniela Tovar and Tiara Alvarez winning their doubles match 6-3. Shortly afterward, Paula Corbalan and Isabella Benavides also secured a 6-3 victory, giving Jackson State the doubles point.

The Tigers carried their momentum into singles play. Alvarez completed her undefeated day with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Alabama A&M’s Lavynia Vieira de Sa at number six. Mariia Iordanova added a win at number two, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Corbalan sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alicia Owegi.

Jackson State will conclude the season with a four-match home stand, beginning Tuesday, April 7, against Delta State at 2 p.m.
