Jackson State women’s tennis earns first win of season against Co-Lin
Jackson State’s women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Co-Lin during a home doubleheader. The Tigers opened the match by winning all three doubles matches, with Daniela Tovar and Helen Hernandez defeating their opponents 6-0 at No. 3 doubles, and Mariia Iordanova and Polina Georgieva winning 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Hernandez and Tovar each won their matches without dropping a game, with 6-0, 6-0 victories. Georgieva secured her win at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Iordanova also contributed with a 6-4, 6-1 win, and Isabella Benavides finished with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Jackson State also faced North Alabama during the doubleheader. Tovar and Hernandez teamed up for a doubles win, 6-3, against the Lions. The team now prepares to host the New Orleans Privateers on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m., aiming to defend its home court.
