Jackson State women’s tennis beats Delta State 4-0

Jackson, Miss. — The Jackson State women’s tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over Delta State on Tuesday at the JSU Tennis Complex. The Lady Statesmen dropped to 10-7 overall, while Jackson State improved to 10-9, according to team officials.

Jackson State took an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches to secure the first point. In the No. 1 doubles match, Amelia Ciesielczyk and Yasmina Mayer lost 6-1 to Helen Hernandez and Victoria Linkovski. Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Trinity Ly also fell 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno was left unfinished.

In singles play, Jackson State clinched the match with straight-set wins on courts two, five, and six. Trinity Ly lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Lena Kuehn was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, and Angie Moreno lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6. Several matches at the top of the lineup remained unfinished, including the No. 1 singles match where Ciesielczyk trailed 7-5, 4-2 when play was halted. Iakovlieva and Mayer also had ongoing matches.

Delta State returns to action Friday at home against the University of Montevallo in Gulf South Conference play at the Cleveland Country Club, according to team officials.
