Jackson State Women’s Basketball Defeats Prairie View A&M 62-43
Jackson, Miss. — Angel Wilkinson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Jackson State’s women’s basketball team in a 62-43 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday. The Tigers, playing at home, also received double-digit scoring from Jaileyah Cotton and Rhema Pegues.
Jackson State (4-13, 2-3 SWAC) dominated in rebounding, out-rebounding Prairie View A&M 52-26. Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua led the team with 16 boards. The Tigers also collected 21 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second-chance points.
The Tigers forced 17 turnovers by Prairie View A&M, converting those into 20 points. Pegues led the team with four steals, helping to spark the defensive effort. Jackson State opened the game strong, taking an early 6-2 lead after a three-pointer from Cotton. The team maintained its advantage throughout the game, building a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Jackson State continued to extend its lead in the second quarter, going on a 7-0 run to push the score to 29-16. The Tigers entered halftime with a 29-18 lead. They maintained control in the second half, with an 8-0 run late in the third quarter and a 10-0 run to close the game, sealing the victory.
Jackson State shot 71.4% from the field in the first half and finished the game with a 36.2% field goal percentage overall. Prairie View A&M shot 53.8% from the free-throw line and 28.6% from the floor. CJ Wilson led the Panthers with 18 points and five rebounds.
