Jackson State Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Mississippi College Spring Classic

CLINTON, Miss. — The Jackson State men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their outdoor season at the Mississippi College Spring Classic, earning five first-place finishes and multiple personal bests. Both teams finished in third place overall, according to school officials.

The Tigers’ standout performances came in the field and hurdle events. Freshman Malayna Mallory won both the women’s discus and hammer throws with distances of 43.23 meters and 49.48 meters, respectively. Kaiden Berry dominated in the men’s shot put, securing first place with a throw of 16.45 meters.

Kayla Williams earned her first career victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.43 seconds. Rickey Green III also finished first in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.57 seconds. Jaden Dix highlighted the Tigers’ personal bests with a 21.46-second run in the 200-meter dash, the second-fastest time among all competitors.

Jordin Smith set a personal best in the 200 meters with a 23.37-second finish, while Callie Callicut recorded a 58.17 in the 400 meters. Duncan Koima posted a personal best in the 5K with a time of 15:39.71. Jackson State is scheduled to compete next at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette on March 20 and 21.
