Jackson State Softball Secures Two Wins at River City Classic
Vicksburg, Miss. — Jackson State softball improved to 3-0 on the season with two wins Saturday at the River City Classic. The Tigers defeated Dallas Christian and Alcorn State, with the latter game ending in a 15-5 victory.
In the second game, Madison McDowell earned the win for Jackson State, pitching three innings and allowing two earned runs on one hit. B. Morris pitched 1.1 innings of relief, surrendering one run without giving up a hit. Jackson State’s offense was led by Jace Jackson, who went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs. Summer Tyes contributed with a home run, a walk, and an RBI, while Courtney Little added two hits, two doubles, and an RBI.
The Tigers took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning against Alcorn State and never trailed. Jackson State scored four runs in the first inning, sparked by a groundout from Jhordan Dyer. The team continued its offensive surge with four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Tyes’ home run, pushing the lead to 8-2. The Tigers extended their lead to 15-2 in the third inning, scoring seven runs, including a single from Dyer. Alcorn State scored three runs in the final inning, but Jackson State secured the 15-5 victory.
Jackson State’s offense was efficient, hitting .471 with runners in scoring position and collecting 11 hits. The team also stole five bases, with two steals in the game. Jackson State’s pitchers limited Alcorn State to a .125 batting average with runners in scoring position, holding the Braves to 1-for-8 at critical moments. Oliso pitched 2.1 innings for Alcorn State, allowing seven runs.
